This carriage was manufactured by the La Porte Carriage Company of La Porte, Indiana around the turn of the century. It is a fine antique. We believe it is a Family Surrey because of its likeness to the catalogue picture shown here. In April I spoke to Jim Rodgers, curator of the museum at the La Porte County Historical Society. He reported that this is the only known carriage on record from the LaPorte Carrriage Company. This company once produced 10,000 carriages per year.

We love to drive our surrey. We take it in many local parades and also show it in antique carriage classes at our county fair. It is always a hit. While I have no desire to lose my antique, I would be willing sell it to someone in the La Porte area so it could "go back home" to be in parades where more people would appreciate its historical value.
